I'm convinced that Katy Evans glimpsed the deepest desires of her readers and, after dreaming up the perfect male specimen, emerged with the fictional hero I've come to know and love, Remington Tate. Mine is the second book in the Real series and the author somehow managed to top her brilliant debut. The tumultuous relationship between Remy and Brooke that developed in the first book is still equal parts amusing and exasperating, providing an endless source of drama and entertainment. The sequel contains all of the excitement of Real, but there's a new level of comfort that comes with returning to the lives of well-loved characters.

Remy and Brooke are probably one of the most co-dependent fictional couples ever to exist but it works for them. If ever there were two characters that would make it possible or sparks to fly from the pages of a book, it would be Remy and Brooke. There's an energy that emits from the story whenever they're in the same room, giving an added thrill to even the most mundane task. They eat, sleep, and breathe each other, and it's impossible not to become entranced by the intensity of their feelings.

A decent portion of the book is devoted to love scenes, which are off-the-charts steamy. Every second of every rendezvous is spelled out in exquisite detail, leaving nothing to the imagination. Remy's possessiveness is thrilling as is his obvious need for Brooke and vice versa. There's something inherently sexy about his predilection for baring his unapologetically primal and dominant characteristics. It’s not often that I come across a heroine who is so genuinely enraptured by her love interest that every thought and action conveys how much she loves him. I had plenty of reasons to love Remy but the fact that Brooke loved him beyond belief only reinforced my feelings.

The relationship between Remy and Brooke is passionate and all-consuming with just a hint of dysfunction. As perfect as their love sometimes seems, there are still plenty of dark clouds hovering over their relationship. In addition to all the outside forces working against them, each needs constant reassurance of the other's love and commitment. They are like a pair of ticking time bombs, easily ignited and constantly on the brink of an explosion. It is both fascinating and emotionally exhausting to follow their roller coaster of a romance. From start to finish, Mine is an undeniably gripping chapter in the lives of Remy and Brooke, and I can’t wait to experience the story again through Remy’s eyes in his own story.
