Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover: Dual Reviews & an E-book Giveaway

Blurb:

Includes a free original soundtrack by musician Griffin Peterson.

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, a passionate tale of friendship, betrayal, and romance—and the enchanting music that inspires one young woman to put her life back together.

At twenty-two years old, aspiring musician Sydney Blake has a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her good friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter cheating on her with Tori—and she is left trying to decide what to do next.

Sydney becomes captivated by her mysterious neighbor, Ridge Lawson. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the daily guitar playing he does out on his balcony. She can feel the harmony and vibrations in his music. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either: He seems to have finally found his muse. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one…

From the author of the New York Times bestsellers Slammed, Point of Retreat, Hopeless, This Girl, and Losing Hope, Maybe Someday is destined to become another bestseller and long-lasting fan favorite.

My Review:

Until reading Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover, I’ve never before finished a book and been at a loss for words. Don’t get me wrong, I was more than satisfied with the conclusion, but it took some time to recover from the emotional roller coaster of the narrative. Maybe Someday is one of those books that the less you know going into it, the better. The single best part of reading this book was that it is so unlike anything I’ve ever read that I had no choice but to stop attempting to predict what would happen next.

Will and Lake; Dean and Hope; Daniel and Six; these unforgettable couples sprung from the imagination of Colleen Hoover, and the author has outdone herself yet again with protagonists, Ridge and Sydney. These are characters that are far from perfect but despite their flaws, I couldn't help but love them anyway. Their intense connection and undeniable attraction to each other gave the story an element of excitement and intrigue, as did the connection they established through their mutual love of music. It's a testament to Collen Hoover's writing that I was so drawn to their unconventional relationship, because I felt that in less capable hands, the narrative could’ve easily turned me against Ridge and Sydney.

This is the type of book that makes you experience a host of different feelings, all in the span of a few sentences. One moment I was smiling from ear to ear and the next I was overcome with devastation. I've read every book that Colleen Hoover has published and it never ceases to amaze me that she continues to write consistently brilliant stories. The narratives may change from book to book but her ability to create captivating characters that evoke intense emotions doesn't change. The very second I finished reading Maybe Someday, I knew that I had experienced something special and therefore had to take this into account when rating the book. I’ve never given a book six stars before but if there’s ever a book that deserves such a rating, it would be Maybe Someday.

Rating: 6 Stars

Guest Review by Michelle Tikal:

Just when I think that Colleen Hoover cannot possibly outdo herself and the masterpieces that she has created in the past, she just has to go and prove me wrong. After so many incredible works, I have been waiting with bated breath for Maybe Someday since the mere mention of this newest work in progress. I had no doubt it would be just as superb as every single other book that she has produced, but now that I’ve read it, could it actually be possible to love this one more? If this was true, and it just might me, I’m not sure I would ever be able to admit it since I already find it as difficult as picking a favorite child when asked to choose between Slammed and Hopeless. Just know that it is a definite possibility. Maybe Someday is absolutely transcendent, the embodiment of sheer perfection. It is heart-shatteringly, gut-wrenchingly, tear-jerkingly painful yet exquisitely beautiful, ardently captivating, and blissfully stirring.

I haven’t been this consumed by a book in quite some time. I was engulfed in a sea of emotion that was intense, gripping, excruciating, and thrilling all at the same time. There was so much passion and longing in this story it actually hurt to experience it. And experience it is exactly what you do. You don’t just read this story; you don’t even merely watch it unfold. You experience it with all of your senses and in every fiber of your being. The yearning that Sydney and Ridge feel is agonizing. The hope it incites, uplifting. You can feel it in your bones, it squeezes your heart, and resonates in your soul.

If there was ever a way to portray the difficult set of circumstances that causes Ridge and Sydney to deny and bury their feelings for each other, this is it. The way in which this situation is depicted is enticingly unique. While similar situations have often been illustrated in the past to a small extent, this time there is only the best of intentions involved with complete openness and brutal honesty. I have so much respect for Colleen Hoover and her characters for having willpower, integrity, and devotion. It is extremely heartening and exhilarating to finally see characters make wise, mature, solid decisions even when in the heat of the moment.

In typical Colleen Hoover fashion this is a wonderfully powerful and emotive story with plenty of humor mixed in. How does she make a pissed off, ditzy, Hooters waitress so funny? You don’t question, you just laugh out loud because it is hilarious. Every single one of the characters in this story is pure magic. Warren, the loyal, porn-loving best friend and roommate, is the ideal complement to the heightening drama within the house bringing much needed levity and respite. As per usual there are countless amusing, witty, and downright side-splitting moments. Even said angry waitress is the perfect combination of humor, hostility, mystery, and comic relief forging a connection with even these secondary characters and making you want to know everything about them.

There was not a single moment while reading this that I was not fully immersed in some sort of intense feeling running the gamut from utterly destroyed to extremely elated. I was so appreciative and in-tune with each and every word of this story that for all the highlighting I did it’s hard to look at each page without squinting as if you are staring at the sun.

I have never given a 6 star rating before. Up until this point I didn’t even really believe in them. I mean when a scale is 1-5 there really is no such thing as a 6. The problem is that Maybe Someday is so far off this chart that I can’t even begin to compare it to the majority of the other 5 star books I have read and loved before which leads to only one conclusion – my very first 6 star review! I really cannot say enough good things about this book and there is absolutely nothing that I did not like or that I would change in any way. Maybe Someday is remarkable, breathtaking, and simply flawless. Three months into the year I am going to go ahead and call it, Maybe Someday will be on my list of best books of the year and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it at the very top. It is unquestionably one of my all-time favorites and I know I will be seeing a lot more of this book as I look forward to reading it over and over again.

About Michelle Tikal:

I am a stay at home mother of three small children under the age of 5. I met my wonderful husband in high school and we have been together for 15 years now. I have a bachelor's degree in Accounting of all things, but have found there's a very good probability of never actually putting that degree to use as I'm much more inclined to all things literary. (Not to mention I sort of hated the profession) My biggest pet peeve is simple grammatical errors. I am a huge animal lover and worked as an Animal Control Officer for 3 years before my oldest came along. I love to read and whenever I have free time (is there such a thing?) I can always be found with my reader in hand. I love contemporary and New Adult romance, the more angst the better! I'm a sucker for a happy ending, there is nothing better than a book that can make me ugly cry, and I simply cannot pass up a hot rocker read. My ultimate book boyfriend is a bad boy rock star with plenty of tattoos and piercings but I would be more than willing to forgo multiple tats and the piercings for Kellan Kyle.
