He bit back a curse and strode to his truck. Unlocking the door, he tossed his bags in the backseat, climbed in, and slammed the door. He turned the key and backed out resolutely, trying to ignore the fact that she had risen, her hands on her bags, and that her hood had slipped from her head. She didn’t move forward, didn’t call out to him to wait. She just stood there, watching him go. He shifted into drive and made it 100 feet before he let his eyes find her figure in the rear view mirror.

“Unbelievable,” Finn ground out, and slammed the wheel with the palm of his hand. He slowed to a stop. “UNBELIEVABLE!” he reprimanded himself even as he engaged the brake, pushed the door open and lurched out of the idling vehicle. Bonnie still stood with her two duffle bags in her hands, her grandma’s stolen purse on her shoulder, but now her lips were slightly parted, clearly stunned that he’d stopped.

And she wasn’t the only one. Finn felt like he was split right down the middle. The rational part of his brain, the side that ensured his survival and his sanity, was outraged, demanding that he keep driving, while the side of his brain that was connected to his heart and other parts of his body was breathing a sigh of relief that he hadn’t let her get away.

She didn’t move, as if she was sure that the moment she did he would change his mind, climb back in the Blazer, and drive away. So he walked back to her, battling with himself every step of the way. He walked until they were practically toe to toe, her dark eyes wide and lifted to his, his hands shoved into his pockets so he wouldn’t strangle her. But his pockets felt like manacles around his wrists and he yanked them free, fisting them in the front of Bonnie’s puffy pink coat and raising her up on her toes and into him until they weren’t toe to toe any longer but nose to nose. His emotions were a big tangled ball of anger, longing, and injustice all wrapped up in impatient outrage, and Finn couldn’t separate one feeling from another. So he did the only thing he could do. He kissed her.

It wasn’t a soft kiss or a sweet kiss. It was a ‘you-scared-me-and-messed-with-me-and-I’m-mad-and-relieved-and-unbelievably-frustrated’ kind of kiss. It was teeth and lips and nipping and bruising, and Finn couldn’t make himself stop, even when Bonnie’s teeth tugged at his lower lip and her hands pulled at his hair. Especially then. And when she wrapped her arms around his neck and stepped up onto his toes so that she could press herself flush against him, he decided revenge really was sweet, and enjoyed the feel of her face against his, the wet heat of her mouth making him forget he was standing in the middle of a Motel 6 parking lot with his ride rumbling behind him, the driver side door still hanging wide open. The rational part of his brain was stunned into peaceful silence…for all of ten seconds.

About the Author:

I’m supposed to share interesting details about myself so that my readers get to know me so here we go in no particular order: I’m an natural redhead even though I haven’t seen my real hair color in years, I’m a big fan of tattoos and have a half sleeve on either arm and various other pieces all over the place, I’ve been in the bar industry since I was in college and it has always offered interesting insight into how men and women interact with each other, I have 3 dogs that are all crazy, I live in Colorado and love the snow, I love music and in all reality wish I could be a rock star not a writer or a bartender but I have zero talent so there is that.

I love to write, love to read and all I’m interested in is a good story with interesting characters that make the reader feel something.

Review by Yvette:

Four books in to the Marked Men series by Jay Crownover and the day has finally come where Rule has been knocked out of the number one spot as my favorite sexy, tatted up fictional hero. Taking his place is Rule's best friend and fellow tattoo artist, Nash Donovan, whose easygoing and unfailingly kind manner drew me in just as much, if not more than, his effortless good looks (anyone else spend an embarrassing amount of time staring at that cover?). Like his predecessors, Nash's colorfully inked body and bad boy persona are only one aspect of his character, as his love interest, Saint Ford, discovers.

Saint is my favorite of all the Marked Men heroines because she's so relatable. Her character is equal parts frustrating and sympathetic because she is the type of girl whose low self-esteem prevents her from recognizing her beauty. While this would normally frustrate me to know end seeing as I have a limited tolerance for heroines who have to be convinced of their good looks, but after reading Saint’s backstory, I understood her reasoning. Jay Crownover does a phenomenal job of placing the reader in the mindset of Saint, whose formative years were less than ideal. Saint is the quintissential underdog character - the one you root for because she deserves to experience happiness for a change.

What I love about the couples in the Marked Men series is that, no matter how different they seem at first glance, each individual is the other’s perfect match. Appearance-wise, Nash and Saint are polar opposites, yet at their core, they are strikingly alike, both suffering long-term effects from previous experiences. My heart broke for the evident impact their past holds on their present, but at the same time, their similar histories are what draws them closer as a couple.

Sometimes I wish I didn't empathize so much with fictional characters because reading Nash made me vicariously experience a wide range of wild emotions in a short amount of time. It's not often that I read a narrative where both the male and female protagonists have such complex and damaging backstories, so I wasn't altogether prepared for the depth of gut-churning and tear-inducing emotions that Nash and Saint would evoke in me. Their story is uncomfortable and messy but most of all, it's real.

I’d taken half the day off work to spend the afternoon with Madison, but standing here watching her flick through paint chips made me wonder if I should have just let her come on her own. She had six different ones and couldn’t decide which one she liked best. We’d been standing in this hardware aisle, going back and forth over the colours for the past hour. I’d almost had enough but I was sure that she could spend all fucking day doing this.

“Baby, do you think you can narrow it down some more? Like to say, one?” I asked.

She scowled at me. “I knew you shouldn’t have come with me. You have absolutely no patience.”

“I have a lot of patience, but you’ve been trying to decide between these for an hour now.”

“Well, I want to get it right, J,” she muttered, throwing me a dirty look.

“Okay, how about this; if you pick one and hate it after we’ve painted, we can always paint it again.”

Her eyes widened. “Really? You wouldn’t mind?”

“No. So let’s pick one and get out of here.”

A pained look appeared on her face. “I really like two of them.” She held up two and showed me. “Which one do you like?”

I grabbed them out of her hand and inspected them. “This one,” I said, holding up the one I preferred. Fuck, why did women take so long to choose? I did it in three seconds flat.

She snatched them back out of my grasp, shaking her head. “You didn’t even look at them, J.”

“I did, babe. It’s not fucking rocket science.”

She gave me a pointed look. “You have no idea.”

I blew out a breath. “I’m going to go outside and wait for you in the car. You reckon you can be done in five minutes?”

“I’ll be as long as it takes. And you won’t complain if you want more of what I gave you this morning.”

Christ, she had me by the fucking balls. She’d given me the best goddamn head job this morning and I fucking needed more of that shit. “I’ll be in the car, but hurry the fuck up because now all I can think of is your mouth and my cock.” I leaned into her and promised, “I’ll blow your fucking mind when we get home if you’re done in five minutes.”

As I pulled away from her, she curled her hand around my neck to bring me back to her, and murmured, “Baby, you always blow my mind, so there’s no need for me to hurry.”

I shook my head. “Fuck, we’re gonna be here for another hour, aren’t we?”

She held up a paint chip. “This one, J. And I’m not doing any of the work when you blow my mind. This one’s all on you.”

I grabbed the chip out of her hand and headed towards the paint counter. My cock was so hard right now and I figured I could have her under me within fifteen minutes if the dude at the counter hurried his shit up.

Last Second Chance by Caisey Quinn: "Meet Van" Blitz & Giveaway

When Stella Jo Chandler gets an offer to work at the Second Chance Ranch celebrity rehab facility right after graduating from Texas A&M, she’s tempted to turn it down. She wants to help real people with real problems, not spoiled celebrities going on vacation for publicity. But growing up on her family’s ranch left her with a love of horses that draws her to the opportunity. How bad can babysitting a bunch of strung out celebrities be?

What she didn’t count on was being roped into a tangled mess with infamous rocker and three-time rehab drop out Van Ransom on her first day. And she sure didn’t expect to feel the overwhelming attraction that pulls her to the man who has more issues than she can count on both hands. Like the hotel rooms and tour buses he’s famous for trashing, the havoc he could wreak on Stella’s heart would be irreparable.

Van isn’t at Second Chance for publicity or because he’s suffering from “exhaustion”. He’s on the brink of destruction, and he needs the kind of help Stella isn’t sure she can give. But without her, he'll lose everything. Because he’s on his last second chance.
