The Wedding Dare Blog Tour from Entangled Brazen: Series Review & Giveaway

Dare to Resist

Blurb:

A sexy category romance from Entangled's Brazen imprint...

Trapped and tempted, this battle of wills rages all night long…

Kady Dresco and Colton Brooks click on a level that defies logic. There are only two problems. One, he’s her older brother’s irritating best friend, and two, they're bidding on the same military security services contract.

When the competition heats up, Colton is torn between wanting to strangle Kady (and her annoying brilliance) and kissing her into submission. Which is a bad idea for a million reasons, because Kady’s submission is exactly what he craves. Being trapped in a tiny motel room with the object of his darkest fantasies will require every ounce of his restraint.

Kady doesn’t want his restraint, but Colton knows better. She deserves love, marriage, and a white picket fence—three things Colton can’t give her. But her proximity and the memory of their steamy near-miss three years ago slowly destroys his resolve. And he’s not sure how much longer he can keep his hands off…or his heart closed.

Review by Yvette:

It seems that every time I read a new book by Laura Kaye, I declare it my favorite book of hers to date, which speaks volumes about how she continues to grow as an author with each new story. No matter the length or genre of the narrative, Laura Kaye is bound to produce a brilliant and captivating read, and her latest novella, Dare to Resist is another in a long line of successes. Dare to Resist is a bit more risqué than her other books, with protagonists, Kady Dresco and Colton Brooks, engaging in some light BDSM and heating up the pages with their combustible chemistry. I loved every second of their innuendo-laden banter and eagerly awaited the moment when they would inevitably succumb to their mutual attraction.

Laura Kaye's specialty is sexy Alpha males with dominant personas and Colton Brooks takes the term "dominant" to a whole new level. I didn't fault Kady one bit for being helpless in his commanding presence, especially in light of their romantic history, which includes a quasi-hookup so steamy, the mere memory is a tangible presence between the pair. There is a constant simmering tension that lingers in the background, never letting the reader forget what might have been and what still could be. What allowed me to better appreciate the relationship between Colton and Kady was Kady's strength of character. Kady is successful, intelligent, and focused - qualities that were in no means diminished by her sexual preferences. The established friendship between the two characters only strengthened their physical connection, leading to some unbelievably erotic encounters in an all-too-short period of time.

Dare to Resist is a short and steamy novella that serves as a perfect introduction to a new series of four interconnected novels written by different authors. I devoured this in one sitting, not wanting the story to end, but finding comfort in the fact that the narrative would continue in some capacity in future stories. This prequel novella by Laura Kaye serves as a foray into the start of Colton and Kady's relationship, which is the catalyst for the resulting Wedding Dare series. The fact that these upcoming novels are being written by some of my favorite Entangled Brazen authors has me bursting with anticipation and firmly strapping on my fangirl boots.

Review by Yvette:

Four authors from Entangled Brazen collaborating to write a series of interconnected novels revolving around a bridal party on the prowl for a steamy hookup? Yes please! After reading the introductory novella to the Wedding Dare series, Dare to Resist by Laura Kaye, I was eager to see how each author would create their own individual story within an overarching narrative. Diane Alberts’s Falling for the Groomsman is the first book in the series I read and it didn’t disappoint, providing a steamy romance between two characters with plenty of emotional baggage between them. Whether the characters are experiencing moments of happiness and humor or heartache and distress, Falling for the Groomsman is a seductive and engaging new addition to the Brazen line.

After years of careful avoidance following a one-time sexual encounter in their youth, protagonists Christine Forsythe and Tyler Dresco are faced with endless hours of quality time together as members of a wedding party, specifically the wedding of Tyler's sister aka Christine's best friend. The tension between the pair as a result of a past event is palpable from the start, with lingering hurt feelings and miscommunications casting an air of discomfort across the proceedings. Even with the obvious animosity Christine still feels toward Tyler, they share undeniable chemistry, exchanging acerbic barbs one moment and primed to rip each other’s clothes off the next.

Falling for the Groomsman is a second chance love story, with characters that are so thoroughly fleshed out by the author that reading the narrative feels as if you’re having a conversation with them. I particular enjoyed reading the narrative through Christine's perspective because her slight awkwardness is endearing and half the time, I couldn't decide whether I wanted to laugh or cringe at her antics. She lives inside of romance novels, getting seduction tips from the bold and brazen fictional characters in these stories and wants to put her studies to good use, specifically with Tyler. This book is practically tailor made for book lovers, drawing on the fantasy of getting a second chance at love with your ideal man.

Because of Christine's reliance on the advice of fictional stories, the narrative is very aware of its genre, acknowledging the commonplace happenings of a romance novel, even as it embraces these clichés. I appreciated the tongue-in-cheek humor infused into Christine’s ramblings because it was an entertaining contrast with Tyler’s pragmatism. It is these two characters that make Falling for the Groomsman a lighthearted and humorous read. With Falling for the Groomsman, Diane Alberts made me want to root for a Happily Ever After capable of satisfying the heart of a true romance novel fanatic.

Baiting the Maid of Honor

Thank you for your interest in my books! I'm Tessa and I live in the crazy, loud, overcrowded borough of Brooklyn, New York. I love it here. This city is a constant source of inspiration, which is why I've decided to set my most recent books in the Line of Duty Series here.

I moved to New York when I was eighteen, the day after I graduated high school. Threw my suitcase in the back of a Chevrolet Cavalier and drove across the country to find my adventure. I'm still finding it, little by little.

Thank you for being a part of it.

Review by Yvette:

It never ceases to amaze me that each book Tessa Bailey comes out with replaces its predecessor as my new favorite book by the author. Her latest release, Baiting the Maid of Honor, is no exception, introducing readers to two new unforgettable protagonists and heretofore unreached levels of sexiness. Tessa Bailey's writing style is so distinctive that I could identify her work in a stack of title-less, author-less books. Baiting the Maid of Honor may have been written in conjunction with the Wedding Dare series but fans of her Line of Duty series will find a new uniformed hero and feisty heroine to welcome with open arms.

Julie Piper and Reed Lawson – after being introduced to the Southern socialite and the so-called Mr. Dark and Dangerous in Falling for the Groomsman, I was fascinated to see how their contrasting personalities would mesh together, although I wasn't quite prepared for the intense chemistry evoked by this unlikely pair, and would never have expected just how effectively they would cast aside one another's inhibitions. The idea that two individuals who are polar opposites at first glance, all but spontaneously combust in each other’s presence is undeniably sexy. While Julie is the epitome of a Southern belle with charm and grace to spare, Reed is rough around the edges, exuding an aura of danger that Julie finds inexplicably exciting. Reed’s crude way of speaking is deliciously scandalous and Julie can’t help but be attracted to his shamelessly erotic words.

The highlight of Baiting the Maid of Honor has to be the banter between Reed and Julie, which is a mixture of sexual tension and antagonism. Each is guilty of forming snap judgments about the other, but even their not-so-favorable first impressions couldn’t disguise their mutual attraction. The connection between Reed and Julie is improbable, yet their stark differences are what draw them together. Each is far from perfect, but they are perfect for the other, with Reed's gruffness and need for control calling to Julie’s quashed desires to unleash her inner vixen. Reed isn't a romantic, but what he lacks in that arena, he more than makes up for in passion and thoughtfulness – qualities that Julie needs to nurture her hidden insecurities. They force each other to step outside of their comfort zones and, as a reader, I was captivated by their overall journey.

About the Author:

New York Times & USA TODAY Bestselling Author

Katee Robert learned to tell stories at her grandpa’s knee. Her favorites then were the rather epic adventures of The Three Bears, but at age twelve she discovered romance novels and never looked back.

Though she dabbled in writing, life got in the way—as it often does—and she spent a few years traveling, living in both Philadelphia and Germany. In between traveling and raising her two wee ones, she had the crazy idea that she’d like to write a book and try to get published.

Her first novel was an epic fantasy that, God willing, will never see the light of day. From there, she dabbled in YA and horror, before finally finding speculative romance. Because, really, who wouldn’t want to write entire books about the smoking-hot relationships between two people?

She now spends her time—when not lost in Far Reach worlds—playing imaginary games with her wee ones, writing, ogling men, and planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse, writing speculative romance and YA horror.

Review by Yvette:

Seducing the Bridesmaid by Katee Robert is the third book I’ve read as part of Entangled Brazen’s Wedding Dare series and what I love most about these books is reading each author's individual spin on one overall premise. This particular book focuses more on the relationship between the two main characters than on the pre-wedding festivities, which I enjoyed because it meant getting to dive deeper into their individual backstories. Of all of this author’s books, Seducing the Bridesmaid is my favorite, not only because the chemistry between protagonists, Regan Wakefield & Brock McNeil, is off the charts, but because the intensity of their emotional connection is all the more powerful for its gradual buildup. As a reader, I was fascinated by the hidden depth of these two characters and enjoyed the process of systematically stripping down their facades.

Looking back on the narrative, I can't decide which character ultimately presented a greater challenge - Regan or Brock. Regan is a woman with a methodically organized life plan and Brock doesn't fit into this plan – a fact that creates an antagonistic tension between the pair from the start. I was alternately amused and exasperated with their constant bickering, never quite knowing how the mood and overall tone of the book would shift with each conversation. Katee Robert infuses a dry humor into every interaction between Regan and Brock, while at the same time exposing the underlying vulnerability within each character that connects them as a couple.

What I find most intriguing about Seducing the Bridesmaid – and all of the Brazen books by Katee Roberts, for that matter – is that the protagonists have their fair share of flaws, hidden behind facades of perfection. For all of his significant charm and bravado, Brock’s ego is surprisingly brittle after becoming accustomed to being judged superficially by his family as well as by his peers. Regan challenges Brock with her ball-busting, no-nonsense persona, but her natural defensiveness that prevents anyone from infiltrating her personal and professional barriers is no match for his considerable magnetic pull. While I enjoyed their futile attempts to resist their feelings for each other, the reward for waiting was so much better.

Review by Yvette:

Unexpected. If I could sum up Best Man with Benefits by Samanthe Beck in one word, that word would have to be "unexpected". After briefly becoming acquainted with protagonists Logan McCade and Sophie Brook in the three preceding novels in the Wedding Dare series, I had certain expectations about these two characters, but I soon discovered that there was more beneath the surface of both Sophie and Logan than I could have imagined. I was thrilled to find in Sophie and Logan a heroine with whom readers can identify and a hero worthy of the title. The fact that these two characters have particularly creative imaginations when it comes to all things bedroom-related is just an added bonus.

Logan is the third McCade brother I've gotten to know and grown to love, and he just might be my favorite of the bunch because he is also more than he appears to be at first glance. Not only is he a CEO with a taste for adventure, but he somehow manages to be both incredibly sweet and unfailingly sexy, commanding the attention of every room he enters. Sophie, on the other hand, is his complete opposite, with her self-deprecating and shy nature compelling her to prefer disappearing into the background. On paper, a relationship between them shouldn’t work, yet their sizzling chemistry would suggest otherwise. The forbidden aspect of Logan having X-rated fantasies starring his best friend’s younger sister only enhances the sheer eroticism of their intimate encounters.

While Sophie proves herself capable of being a take-charge, no-holds-barred seductress, she starts off almost painfully awkward – so much so that whenever I was reading the narrative through her perspective, there were many times I vicariously experienced her embarrassment. Unlike those heroines in certain romance novels who fail to recognize their obvious beauty, she has genuine issues with her body image, which become apparent as Logan attempts to strip down her barriers. I appreciated the fact that the author confronted these issues at length, never shying away from the realness of the situation, no matter how uncomfortable it may be. Sophie is a heroine that I felt a deeper connection to because of the fact that she is so thoroughly bared, both emotionally and physically, and Logan is her perfect counterpart in her journey to self-discovery.

  7. I like the idea of one over riding point in time {bridal party at a destination wedding} but separate stories in each book. I've gotten to read 2 or 3 books when the overriding event is a high school prom & death afterwards -- I enjoyed seeing that through different 'eyes', so I expect I would find a satisfying read in this group of bridal party novels.
