My name was Dr. Erica Hill. I was a victim, then a witness, and then I ceased to exist altogether.
I may still be breathing, but stripped of my identity, I have long since stopped living. I am invisible, and my life depends on my ability to stay in the shadows.
But he sees me.
Slate Andrews is the embodiment of everything I have been taught to avoid. He’s rich and famous, and one image of him with a woman would earn millions for any paparazzi lucky enough to snap it. He has vowed to protect me with his life, yet he exposes me with his every breath. I should be stronger and walk away. I should disappear. But I’m terrified he would come after me.
I’m on the run, determined not to take him down with me but absolutely unable to let him go.
My name is Riley Peterson…at least for today.

Review by Michelle:
Aly Martinez never ceases to amaze me. Among the Echoes is yet another shining example of her stunning ability to captivate, stimulate, and move. Whether it is her thoroughly engaging characters, her original storylines, the shocking tidbits that change up the game, or the depth of emotion evoked within mere minutes of starting the story, she continues to surprise and astound with her incredible talent. From the moment I opened Among the Echoes until the very last word I was entranced. The peaks and valleys of this story are so incredibly high and so devastatingly low making for one crazy ride that has you tied up in knots one minute and pleading for more the next.
I am not going to lie, the first couple chapters are extremely painful to experience. It is shocking and heartbreaking, but critical in understanding Erica as the jumpy, terrified, timid, secluded woman she became as a result of the events of her past and vital in illuminating the immense growth and change that Slate provokes in her. After meeting Slate we see her slowly come out of her shell. She learns to trust, she learns to move forward, she learns to love, and most importantly she learns to live. Her transformation is simply stunning.
There is not one but two swoon-worthy significant men in Erica's life who you are bound to fall in love with. Not to worry though, this is not a love triangle. Leo is Erica's protector, her home, the person that soothes her and makes her feel safe. Until she meets Slate that is. Slate is a champion boxer determined to stay out of the limelight. He is big and strong, sexy and dominant, funny and charming. He isn't completely possessive and domineering or over-the-top, instead he is just alpha enough and fiercely protective.
Aly Martinez's characters are always alluring and endearing, but above all else, without fail, they are always real. They always seem to say exactly what they think and never pull any punches. Slate, Erica, and Leo are no different. It makes them sincere, it makes them genuine, and it makes them relatable. They don't always speak poetically or say the right thing at just the right time which is in no way a hindrance as it makes us see them as sweet and loveable and human.
The very first sentence of this story starts your heart racing and your adrenaline pumping and this doesn't let up until the very last word. The entire story keeps you constantly on edge wondering if and when everything will catch up to these characters, how this situation could possibly work out, and how on earth they will ever make it out from under their burden. It is nail biting, it is unpredictable, and unnerving in the best possible way.
Ok so Among the Echoes is a standalone and technically it has nothing to do with Aly Martinez's Wrecked and Ruined series, BUT if you take anything away from this review, other than how amazing this book is, I implore you to read Changing Course and Stolen Course before reading Among the Echoes. Why? Most importantly because they are each powerful and spellbinding and two of my favorites. But also because there is a twist, an incredible, staggering, ingenious twist, at the end of this story that ties into these two books that is jaw dropping, heart stopping, and makes you want to laugh and cry and cheer and give the author a big, wet kiss right on the mouth. I would love for everyone that reads this to experience this same rush of euphoria. So really, I beg you, read Changing Course and Stolen Course first. What's the worst that could happen? You end up adding two more really great books to your read list? You become addicted like me and stalk the author hoping for any mention of her next book, Broken Course? You constantly agonize over which of the three books is your favorite? Any way you slice it, it doesn't sound like a bad deal to me.
