When We Met by A.L. Jackson, Molly McAdams, Tiffany King & Christina Lee: Blog Tour Review & Giveaway

Today’s premiere New Adult authors combine their talents to tell four original stories from inside one house.

When four girls decide to live off campus together as juniors at a college in Michigan, they expect it to be their best year yet. Little do they know, it’s a year that will change the rest of their lives.

Unable to live down her ex-boyfriend’s deception, Misha is determined to avoid betrayal. When, the new guy next door, Darryn starts to get under her skin, her defenses start to crumble. But trusting Darryn seems impossible, especially if he’s not sure he can trust himself.

SAVING ME by Molly McAdams
On the outside, Indy is always ready for a party—but inside she’s breaking. Kier makes a weekly routine of saving the girl next door from herself on Saturday nights… but when will she be ready to remember him on Sunday morning?

FOULING OUT by Tiffany King
Working at a sports bar, Courtney has become a pro at sidestepping propositions from arrogant jocks—which makes her a more elusive catch for campus basketball star Dalton than he expected. But when he falls for the saucy waitress, Dalton will have to rethink his game plan to prove he’s not the jerk Courtney expects.

In order to ace her fashion internship, Chloe must team up with local college dropout and set builder, Blake—much to her chagrin. But after some "hands-on" experience, Chloe will have to ask herself if Blake factors into her carefully laid plans…

About A.L. Jackson:

A.L. Jackson is the New York Times bestselling author of Take This Regret and Lost to You, as well as other contemporary romance titles, including Pulled and When We Collide.

She first found a love for writing during her days as a young mother and college student. She filled the journals she carried with short stories and poems used as an emotional outlet for the difficulties and joys she found in day-to-day life.

Years later, she shared a short story she’d been working on with her two closest friends and, with their encouragement, this story became her first full length novel. A.L. now spends her days writing in Southern Arizona where she lives with her husband and three children. Her favorite pastime is spending time with the ones she loves.

About Molly McAdams:

Molly grew up in California but now lives in the oh-so-amazing state of Texas with her husband and furry four-legged daughters. When she's not diving into the world of her characters, some of her hobbies include hiking, snowboarding, traveling, and long walks on the beach … which roughly translates to being a homebody with her hubby and dishing out movie quotes. She has a weakness for crude-humored movies, fried pickles and loves curling up in a fluffy comforter during a thunderstorm ... or under one in a bathtub if there are tornados. That way she can pretend they aren't really happening.

Review by Michelle:

In When We Met four exceptional authors join forces to tell the story of the Hawthorne House and its four inhabitants. Each short story has a completely different feel with distinct and independent characters that flows effortlessly from one roommate to the next leaving the impression of one continuous story based on four individual, loveable women and the men that capture their hearts. From heartwarming to heartbreaking, fun and playful to troublesome and even painful, A.L. Jackson, Molly McAdams, Tiffany King, and Christina Lee run the gamut of emotion over the course of the four stories creating a full, rich experience that leaves you craving more.

These masters of chemistry and attraction sure give you your money's worth with short romances that make you instantly fall in love with all of the characters and make you want so much more. In relatively few words, each story packs a punch and has you so attached to these couples that you will be overwhelmingly disappointed when one ends despite knowing that another great love story is about to unravel and that you will get to see glimpses of the previous characters within the subsequent stories. Once you face the end of one story and surmount the loss of one beloved couple though, you are effortlessly immersed into the world of another equally adored pair and the cycle begins again.

Behind Her Eyes by A.L Jackson delivers the swooniest of men in Darryn Wild, the boy-man-god who is hot in every sense, his looks, his charm, even his car and whose every thought and word had me sighing contentedly from the sheer longing and reverence within them. I definitely have to give it to A.L. Jackson for taking part in this project. Her novels are usually on the longer side and are extremely detailed. I can only imagine that this was a challenge for her, but one that was adeptly and beautifully done.

Saving Me by Molly McAdams is a powerfully emotional story about two characters with traumatic pasts that have much to overcome and find fortitude within each other to rise above and move on. From badass avenging angel to quiet understated protector, the first two men in this collaboration could not have been more different, yet each was enchanting in their own way. Kier's quiet charm, his teasing flirtiness and his strength drew me in while his story crushed me and captured me all at once. Indy's incessant rambling and uncanny ability to always say the wrong thing was instantly endearing. Two characters and histories that will tug at your heartstrings and form a lump in your throat.

Fouling Out by Tiffany King is a nice transition into a lighter, more playful story about reconnection and second chances. The banter between Courtney and Dalton was tons of fun and brought the perfect levity at just the right time. Courtney has her act together, she has priorities and determination and refuses to let anything get in her way. She also makes Dalton, the star basketball player who is used to getting whatever he wants served up on a silver platter, work for her attention which I found both humorous and admirable.

Beneath Your Layers by Christina Lee follows a much different character than I am used to seeing from this author but the uptight, everything to plan Chloe was a pleasant change and the perfect match for Blake's easy-going, spontaneous nature. An engaging story of letting go, stepping outside of your comfort zone, and enjoying the ride.

These shorts may not, by nature, be able to give us the happily ever after or forever that we all so desperately crave, but they do leave us in a good, satisfyingly fulfilled place with the promise of so much more.

The cohesiveness of the four stories and the flow from one to the next was delightful and not at all what I have come to expect from an anthology. There is no central theme other than new adult romance, there is no one event or timeframe that each story recounted from a different perspective, there are almost no similarities between the girls, the guys, or their stories which is exactly what makes it so absorbing, so compelling, and so appealing. Each author brought their own distinct voice and writing style to the table and yet melded their individual piece of the whole perfectly with the others. A wonderful compilation of stories. I enjoyed When We Met immensely and would love to see more anthologies modeled after this one.
