I’ve come from a privileged life and an even more privileged upbringing. My parents taught me right from wrong and everything in between… except I wanted the gray area. I wanted to live life on the edge with the possibility of falling over. I didn’t care about the consequences because I had no heart…
I left that on the floor of my parents’ bedroom door, shattered.
And never went back to pick up the pieces.
I learned the meaning of the word hate.
I learned that life is a battlefield and I stood frontline.
I learned that praying doesn’t work and God doesn’t listen.
And I learned how to be a man…
All at the receiving end of my father’s fists, my mother’s tears, and my sisters screams.
You can’t run away from your past…
It will always find you, especially when you’re asleep.

Review by Michelle:
Brooke Stevens has always been an alluring and intriguing character throughout the VIP series and now she has her very own spin-off in which we get all the gory, sexy, gloomy details as to what makes this vixen tick and what lies in store for the new head of the empire. A much more involved and emotional story than the previous accounts, Tempting Bad is a super steamy, delightfully complicated read with angst galore.
I could not have asked for a better pairing of characters in this story. Brooke has always been a mystery. She seemed to have it all and yet there was always the looming question as to why she would pursue the life of a VIP and what hidden, missing piece she is looking to fill. Brooke is always the life of the party as well as an amazing best friend and support for Ysabelle, but why does she refuse to speak about her past and is VIP truly her happy ending or is there something more? Is there something maybe she hasn't even been looking for or expecting that will bring her the happiness and fulfillment of a happily ever after instead of a happy enough for now? Devon was the same enigma in the previous books. I always felt a little bad for him with the demise of his marriage and the splitting up of his family and there was always the question as to his true feelings for Ysabelle. Was he in love with her? Would he ever be able to find true happiness for himself when Ysabelle could never be his? Despite all this he always seemed so content, so well adjusted. I never expected the can of worms that was Devon's past, the demons that he battled on a daily basis, or how damaged he had been. Together these two are a force to be reckoned with. The combination of Brooke and Devon together was combustible and not always in the best, or even a good way, but amidst all of the chaos they just may actually help, and as cheesy as it sounds, complete and calm each other.
With alternating POVs we get to fully experience both Brooke and Devon's pasts and all of the significant moments they entail, but also once the two meet and hit it off, a perspective change often takes place in the middle of a important scene. This makes for a full, rich experience in which we know each characters inner workings, their thoughts, and their feelings long before they do or are willing to admit.
Definitely the angstiest of all the VIP books. Two broken people are trying desperately to outrun their pasts and the influence of their families. Can either run fast or far enough away to truly escape and find peace and happiness without being ready and willing to face their issues head on? Until then, there seems to be no real hope for change. It's also hard enough when one person in a potential relationship is dead set on entering into a relationship or falling in love, but when both parties do everything in their power to deny their feelings it's an agonizing uphill battle. After all, how much can you hurt someone you love before the relationship is too broken to ever heal? Brooke and Devon pile hurt upon hurt upon each other in every imaginable way until it seems like not even a miracle can salvage some sort of relationship.
The anticipation of Brooke and Devon's story in Tempting Bad was nothing compared to the reality of their circumstances, their joys and their struggles. An unconventional romance that is surprising and captivating and leaves you craving more.
