Review by Michelle:

The rules have changed. Aleatha Romig, the Queen of anti-heroes has returned with a whole new side to the charming and enigmatic Nox we first met and fell for in Betrayal. In Cunning we are taken on a twisty, turny rollercoaster ride to find out what happens when Alex and Charli's worlds finally collide.

Mean and nasty, even degrading and condescending, the new Nox we are introduced to is a completely different man we all know and love from Del Mar. Nox is not happy with Charli to say the least and is determined to teach her a lesson. It seems there are even more sides to Nox than ever anticipated, so many in fact it will make your head spin, leaving readers consumed with questions as to where that man from Del Mar went, who the real Nox is, if he can really be trusted, and what else could he be hiding?

No matter what hand she is dealt, Alex is steadfastly strong and determined, driven and resilient. We find that Charli has been seriously underestimated in all areas of her life and with this final blow, she is resolute in taking back her strength and showing all of those who have wronged her that you just don't mess with Alexandria Collins.

Things really get interesting as we are introduced to yet another point of view in this installment. Adelaide steps forth to recount history with an enlightening, fascinating, and invaluable look into the atrocities of her past. We may have known the Montagues were not without secrets and scandal, but we finally begin to uncover just how truly sordid and devious this family can be.

Of course it wouldn't be an Aleatha Romig book without a few gasp worthy twists and turns and a stunning cliffhanger to leave you clinging to the edge of your seat. Between astonishing connections, underhanded motives, and unexpected sympathies, Cunning is a treasure trove of new and shocking complications and revelations. Aleatha Romig never fails to deliver a mind-blowing, deliciously dark and deceitful read and Cunning is another shining example of what a marvelously evil mastermind this author really is.

Cunning is a gripping page turner that raises as many new questions as it answers and sets you up for what is sure to be one hell of a sequel. You will be entranced and thoroughly addicted by this story as you are sucked deeper and deeper into its intricate web of lies, secrets, and mystery. With my mind still reeling and my heart still racing I want to both curse and hug Aleatha Romig, fall to my knees and simultaneously scream in frustration and beg for more. Is it May yet?
