About the Author:

I’m a California native, who lives in the South – Virginia to be exact. I still prefer sushi to fried chicken, avocados to okra, and I absolutely loathe humidity. I do love watching the seasons change though. My husband and I have been here for ten years, and I still get giddy like a school girl every time it snows.

I’m married to my high school sweetheart. We were married young, barely out of high school. Everyone told us we were crazy and stupid. We’ll be celebrating 12 years of marriage this year, and I love him more every single day. We’re living proof that true love knows no age limit.

We’ve been blessed with two beautiful daughters who continue to amaze and inspire me, and are probably making me go a bit insane. I’m obsessed with yoga and pilates and am a complete chocoholic. I apologize in advance for the amount of sweets in my book.

I’m absolutely obsessed with romance novels (duh) and probably could have built a vacation home with the amount of money I’ve invested in them over the years. Romance novels take you to another place, making your heart race, emotions swell, passion run free. After so many years of meeting hundreds of fictional characters and discovering their worlds, I found myself creating my own.

I am represented by Jill Marsal of Marsal Lyon Literary Agency, LLC.

Review by Michelle:

He knows! As soon as I finished Forgetting August last December I began counting down the hours until I could get my hands on Remembering Everly to find out what happens next. While I loved returning to August and Everly's turbulent love story, wading through August's new memories, and finally getting answers to so many of my lingering questions, it just wasn't everything I was hoping it would be.

I loved reliving all of August's memories right along with him, especially some of the good times that he shared with Everly. I loved the back and forth of will she, or won't she, when it came to Everly and Ryan. I loved the strength and backbone that Everly gained in this book. And I really loved that such a beautiful outcome came from such a tragic circumstance. They say everything happens for a reason and this could not be more true for August and Everly. The coma, while horrible and scary, seems to have been the absolute best thing that could have happened to the two of them as they went from broken, secretive, and fearful to trusting, sharing, and stronger than ever. Love was never a problem for this couple, but the love they share post coma as opposed to before the accident and how they express that love comes from a much healthier, happier place.

August and Everly spent more time apart than together in this book, much like the first, but I could certainly appreciate the growth that came from this separation for both characters. August realized what it would be like to live his life without the person most important to him, how to share his burden and communicate, how to trust even if it meant bringing a loved one he would like nothing more than to protect, closer to a dangerous situation, and how to give the kind of love the love of his life deserves. Everly learned about her true self, her thoughts, feelings, needs, and desires, she discovered what she deserves in a relationship and from a partner, and how to demand it from that partner. I definitely would have liked more time with the two as a couple in this conclusion to their story, but the outcome was definitely worth all the time apart.

I guess I just thought there would be more. More secrets, more drama, more action, more love, more passion. Unfortunately, despite the way the first book ended, it seemed to me like there actually wasn't a whole lot more to discover and I'm left wondering if there was really even a need for a second book. While one twist could be seen from miles away, the other wasn't as shocking as I would have liked and in the end it seemed sort of glossed over and rushed. I loved the ending of Forgetting August, it left me intrigued and chomping at the bit for more, but it would have been just as good of as a gasp worthy plot twist in one book as a cliffhanger leading into a seemingly unnecessary second.

Remembering Everly is just the resolution I was hoping for August and Everly's story. While parts of this conclusion were a bit drawn out for my liking whereas other, more important pieces, seemed a bit rushed, you certainly can't go wrong with a suspenseful, angsty duet from J.L. Berg, an author with incredible writing prowess who has produced some of my favorite books in the past and whom, I have no doubt, will produce many future favorites as well.
