The Hardest Fall (Roadmap to Your Heart #3) by Christina Lee: Release Blitz Review

Lee trades country ballads for show tunes in the next standalone book of her Roadmap to Your Heart series.

After licking his wounds from a painful relationship, Tate Sullivan is ready to move back home. He picks up where he left off as drag queen extraordinaire Frieda Love in a West Village bar in New York City. He doesn’t expect to be drawn to the mysterious man with the dark eyes who shows up to every single performance—flirtatiously eyeing Tate one second and disappearing on him the next. Why mess around with a guy who is clearly giving him mixed signals?

Sebastian Clark is on a mission the first night he shows up at Ruby Redd’s. He doesn’t anticipate his plan being flipped on its head by the charismatic drag queen and even more so by the mesmerizing man beneath the makeup. But the more he learns about the vibrant and brash Tate Sullivan the more intrigued he becomes. So he pushes aside his guilt about why he sought out the bar in the first place in order to get to know the guy behind the stilettos.

They’re opposites on many levels, but as Tate spends time volunteering with Sebastian at the shelter, he begins to feel good about himself in ways he hadn’t before. For Sebastian, Tate represents a sense of fun and freedom that is completely fresh and invigorating. Before they know it, their easy companionship catches fire, and Sebastian is kissing a man for the first time, while Tate is opening his heart to new possibilities. But Sebastian is still keeping a secret, and Tate will have to decide if he can trust again, or if the betrayal he feels from Sebastian’s confession is too much to overcome.

Review by Michelle:

What happens when a straight, conservative businessman meets drag queen Frieda Love? Sparks, flirtation, a bit of confusion, a whole lot of laughter, soul searching, and so much more. Christina Lee brings all of the heart, angst, and anticipation we have come to love and expect from her work as well as a moving and addicting opposites attract story of self discovery, self assurance, and being true to yourself. The Hardest Fall is my new favorite book in the Roadmap to Your Heart series and a top favorite male/male romance for me.

Literally starting off on a high note, we meet the supremely sassy and alluring Queen of queens, Freida Love, and are instantly absorbed in her interest with a certain Mr. Dark Eyes. From here we are taken on a journey through attraction, uncertainty, friendship, identity issues, longing, betrayal, heartbreak, and all-consuming love. An emotional journey that is equal parts, light and fun, deep and teary, passionate and electric, and hot and steamy, there is no stone left unturned in the feels department with important lessons to be learned about confidence, giving and receiving love from others, as well as loving yourself.

Tate Sullivan is absolutely irresistible. So charming, so charismatic, so sarcastic, witty and fun, you will, without a doubt, be just as inescapably drawn to Tate and his flamboyant personality and vibrant nature as Sebastian is. Truly effervescent, what you see is what you get with Tate who is unapologetically who he is and it is refreshing and wonderful and quite honestly pretty inspirational. Sebastian, on the other hand, is reserved, closed off, and guarded, yet he is so sweet, so thoughtful, and so giving despite his painful past and all while standing at a crossroads in his life, you just can't help but fall for him, to want to give him a great big hug, and to wish for the very best for him.

Whenever I talk about a Christina Lee book, I just can't help but talk about the sexual tension. The pacing of the romance in this story could not be more perfect. With Tate's understandable aversion to relationships and Sebastian's apparent heterosexuality, the process that each man undergoes in order to deal with and accept their feelings is an important one that takes time, patience, and effort all while a thrilling electricity simmers just beneath the surface. The attraction is instant, the connection intense, but the bond the two men forge in friendship is priceless and makes all the difference.

A story so relatable no matter your age, gender, or orientation, this may be a male/male romance but the heart of the story is the journey that comes from finding yourself and the difficulties along the way sprout from common insecurities that often come from being unsure of who that person is or what it is they really want. With an overarching theme of always being true to yourself, this book is not just fun and sweet and sexy, but also encouraging, enlightening, and inspiring.

The Hardest Fall is a book about a drag queen and a not-so-straight-after-all man. It is a story about two men who form a powerful bond and fall in love with each and every aspect of the other. It is also simply a story about loving yourself for who you are and finding that special someone who will always do the same. I'm a big fan of male/male romance, but I'm an even bigger fan of love and while this story may be about two men, it is chock full of universal truths, valuable wisdom, and love. A new favorite in this genre and a new favorite all around, Christina Lee has done it yet again.
