Distraction (Club Destiny #8) by Nicole Edwards: BlogTour Review

Time doesn’t always heal a broken heart. Sometimes the only thing it does is fill the darkness with more shadows, more pain.

Dylan Thomas has spent the past decade living in the shadows, mourning the loss of his wife, his best friend, his very reason for breathing. He long ago accepted that he would never feel again, that he was damned to a world without light, without hope. That was the day the bottle won, and he gave himself over to the darkness.

Until the one night that rocked his brittle, crumbling world on its axis. She told him what they shared was simply a distraction, a way to forget for a little while. It would’ve been, except the tiny glimpse of how it feels to live again, to feel again, gives him the strength he needs to pull himself up by his boot straps. But sobriety comes one day at a time, and three years later may be three years too late.

Author Bio:

Nicole lives in Texas with her husband, Colt, three kids and four dogs. It's quite the household and most of the time you'll find her locked away in her office... writing. When she's not, you'll likely find her reading, swimming, or hanging out in the yard with the dogs, doing her best to keep them in line. (And no, it doesn't usually work)

Ever want to let that other part of you loose? The part that has secret desires and taboo fantasies? Well, that's what brought about Nicole Edwards. She's an alter ego. In truth, she's a full-fledged part of me. The secret part made up of sinfully hot desires and erotic thoughts. Get to know how Nicole's naughty mind works by checking out her books!

About me... hmmm...

Ok, I've been asked to provide a little bit of "real" information about myself. That's harder to do than you think it is, especially for someone who has difficulty talking about themselves. ;) But, here goes...

I've been writing for as long as I can remember. Ever since I was a kid, I loved creative writing and as I got older, I got acquainted with those voices in my head and that led to putting my stories on paper. And now, here I am all these years later, spending my days doing what I love most. I decided to give myself over to writing full time in 2012 and I haven't looked back. I spent nearly 13 years in the corporate world and I have to say, this is a bit of a change (just a little) and I am loving every second of it.

I live in Texas with my husband and three amazing kids and our four beloved dogs. If I'm not writing, I'm usually reading. I devour everything I can get my hands on. I love romance of any type and being an Indie author myself, I'm always looking for new Indies to support. I haven't always been into reading, but about eleven years ago, I picked up a book - I'm pretty sure it was by Nora Roberts - and from there, I haven't stopped. Before I began writing full time, and my characters started taking up so much of my time, I was reading about 200 books a year. That has dwindled somewhat, but there isn't a day that goes by that I don't read.

An interesting fact... I don't watch television - aside from the occasional news anyway. I will go see a movie or two rarely, but for the most part, I get all of my entertainment from a book. Some of my favorite authors include J.R. Ward, Suzanne Brockmann, Lora Leigh, Jane Rylon, Lori Foster, and Jaci Burton just to name a few.

Review by Yvette:

It’s always bittersweet coming to the end of a favorite series. But when that I learned that book would follow the journey of a character whose story I’ve been anticipating since his introduction, I was eager to get my hands on Distraction. The final installment of the Club Destiny series by Nicole Edwards is, in a word, intense. This book tackles hard-hitting topics and pushes boundaries. It’s gut-wrenching but it’s also hopeful. It’s sensual. It’s seductive. And it’s downright naughty. Like I said: intense. But in a good way… Following the story of protagonists, Dylan Thomas and Sarah Davis, Distraction that’ll have your stomach fluttering and your heart racing, keeping you glued to the narrative from start to finish.

After gradually witnessing Dylan's gradual downward spiral over the course of the series, I knew that when his story came around, it wouldn't be filled with sunshine and rainbows. The death of his wife changed him irrevocably so it’s fitting that, when he finally explores the possibility of opening his heart once more, it’s with a woman with whom he has a history and who understands what he’s gone through. Both Dylan and Sarah are struggling to overcome their pasts, using each other as a distraction from their monotonous everyday lives. It’s when emotions enter the equation that their relationship gets complicated.

The romantic buildup between Dylan and Sarah is a slow burn, with sexual tension simmering between them until their longing and pent-up desire explodes into an all-consuming need for each other. Together, they're passionate and adventurous, with off-the-charts chemistry that’s empowered by a baser, physical attraction. Through sexual intimacy, the two break down each other’s physical barriers, which, in turn, sets their emotions awhirl. At its heart, Distraction is a story about two broken individuals coming together for a second chance at life and love. It's about giving up and taking control, and losing your inhibitions. Watching Dylan and Sarah attempt to overcome the hurdles of their would-be romance is undoubtedly the most compelling part of reading this book. The fact that the book is also insanely steamy doesn’t hurt…

If you’re in the mood for a story will tug on your heartstrings and put a blush on your cheeks, Distraction is a must-read. Not only was Distraction a perfect way to say goodbye to the Club Destiny series, but it introduces readers to a spin-off series which promises to be just as sexy (if not more so) than what I’ve come to expect from this author. Who wouldn’t say yes to more books from Nicole Edwards? Bring on Trent Ramsey, please!
