Mack Daddy by Penelope Ward: Review Blitz

Blurb:

From New York Times bestselling author, Penelope Ward, comes a sexy, STANDALONE second-chance romance.

They called him Mack Daddy. No, seriously, his name was Mack. Short for Mackenzie. Thus, the nickname. Perfect, right?

So was he: perfect. The perfect physical male specimen.

At the private school where I taught, Mack Morrison was the only man around in a sea of women.

Everyone wanted a piece of the hot single father of the sweet little boy.

I was riddled with jealousy, because they didn’t know that—to me—he was much more.

They didn’t know about our past.

He’d chosen my school for his son on purpose, because Mack and I, we had unfinished business.

As my friend Lorelai so eloquently put it: “Unfinished business between two people who are clearly attracted to each other is like an eternal case of blue balls.” And I was suffering in pain from my case.

I was still intensely attracted to Mack. I tried to resist him, immersing myself further into a relationship with another man just to protect my heart.

Not to mention, getting involved with a parent was strictly against school rules. But seeing Mack day in and day out was breaking me down.

And soon I might be breaking all the rules.

Author's note – Told in alternating points of view, Mack Daddy is a full-length standalone novel.

Review by Michelle:

Sexy single dad, second chance romance, witty banter, and an innovative storyline, what more could you ask for? Penelope Ward is a master when it comes to bringing us charismatic characters, undeniable chemistry, and a story that will have you hooked from the start. Mack Daddy turns out to be yet another perfect example.

Although I've never been a huge fan of the term MILF and even less so of the use of DILF, I just may make an exception for Mack. There are a whole lot of wonderful words that seem to fit Mack precisely, but DILF pretty much describes my feelings for the man to a T. Mack is a softie disguised as a jerk all wrapped up in an easygoing heartthrob package. Mack is carefree, has the kind of confidence many of us could only imagine, and more than enough charm and allure to keep tongues wagging and ladies drooling wherever he goes. As we gradually peel away his layers we find a genuine, caring, and sweet stand up guy who will willingly sacrifice his own happiness at the drop of a hat in order to do what is right and to be there for those that he loves.

Francesca is a bit more on the quirky side. A little nerdy, a lot awkward, unwaveringly honest, and a good girl to the core. You just can't help but love, and laugh at, all of the horribly awkward, unfortunately all too realistic, situations Frankie just can't help but find herself in. Including being ambushed by her first love and his son on the first day of school. Sometimes this girl just seems to have the worst luck.

While I loved almost everything about this book, a plot twist and some of the complications toward the end seemed really out of left field and much too dramatic for me. As a self admitted angst junkie, I love a good emotional story with plenty of obstacles to the couple being together, but I was stunned, more in a you've-got-to-be-kidding-me sort of way instead of a oh-this-is-going-to-be-good! way, by a couple of the events and the resolution as far as Torrie was concerned I found to be pretty lackluster and anticlimactic.

More than your typical sweet and funny romance, Mack Daddy deals with some real and serious issues too. Some issues that all of us face in one way or another, some that many families must deal with on a daily basis, some that are commonplace, some that are grossly underestimated, and some that may very well surprise you.

If you love second chances and a smokin' hot daddy, if you love heartfelt with just enough tension and angst to keep you begging for more, you cannot go wrong with Mack Daddy.
