Stay by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy: ARC Review

Can you fall for someone you've never even met?

Hailey Taylor Emery has a hunch that her favorite client at Fetch--an anonymous virtual assistant service--is actually hockey star Matt Eriksson.

Although it's against the rules for her to check his file, she's 95% sure she spends at least part of each day texting with her lifelong crush and catering to his every need. Still nursing a wounded heart thanks to her recent breakup, Hailey is perfectly content with some harmless online flirting...until she has to meet her client. Face to face. Cue: utter panic.

Matt Eriksson is no stranger to heartbreak. He's still not over the destruction of his marriage, and it sucks to be the only guy on the team who knows the truth--that hockey and long-term relationships are a toxic mix. He barely sees his kids, and dealing with his ex makes him feel insane. The only person in his life who seems to understand is someone who won't show her pretty face.

But it's nothing that a pair of fourth row hockey seats can't fix. Hailey can't resist the offer. Matt can't resist Hailey. Good thing he doesn't have to. Fire up the kiss cam!

Warning: Contains rabid hockey fans, misunderstood dick pics, hockey players at the opera and exploding ovaries.

About Sarina Bowen:

Sarina Bowen writes steamy, angsty contemporary romance from Vermont's Green Mountains. (Her ancestors began logging and farming Vermont during the 18th century. These were rugged, outdoor types without benefit of a laptop or a good latte. It boggles the mind.)

Sarina enjoys skiing, skating and good food. She lives in Windsor County, Vermont, with her family, eight chickens and too much ski gear and hockey equipment.

Review by Yvette:

Good Boy by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy is one of my TOP FAVORITE books of 2017. I absolutely loved the first book in the author duo's hockey-themed romance series, WAGs, so, of course, I was eager to get my hands on the follow-up novel, Stay. Following protagonists, Matt Eriksson and Hailey Taylor Emery, Stay is a story about two divorcées navigating the murky waters of life and love post-divorce. With laugh-out-loud hilarity, a blush-inducing romance, and an eclectic cast of characters whose antics will keep you on your toes, Stay will easily join Good Boy as one of my favorite reads of the year.

Matt and Hailey’s relationship is far from conventional. The famous professional hockey player is one of Hailey’s clients, employing her virtual assistant business to take care of his needs. Did I mention their transactions are anonymous? Of course, Hailey has a sneaking suspicion that the client with whom she has an innocent online flirtation is none other than her favorite hockey star, and it’s not long before their flirtation turns in to something more. The romance between Matt and Hailey is tentative, rife with chemistry and sexual tension but also inhibitions and uncertainty seeing as how each is the other’s introduction back into the dating pool. It's a bit like a schoolyard crush, awkward and fumbling at first, but evoking that butterflies-in-the-stomach giddiness of a burgeoning romance.

What made Stay so enjoyable to read and what kept me glued to the pages of my Kindle were the characters, major and minor. Matt’s interactions with his teammates along with Hailey’s exchanges with the WAGs had me cracking up and eager to see what they would say and do next. And while Stay doesn't have the over-the-top zaniness that is Blake Riley, Matt Eriksson is certainly a noteworthy hero in his own right. Matt is both masculine and gentlemanly, sweet and sexy, considerate and commanding. *cue major swooning* I totally didn’t blame Hailey for getting tongue-tied around the divorced father of two adorable twin girls. Once she got over her nerves and allowed her cool, confident persona to shine, though, sparks flew and their rapport felt more effortless.

Cute, funny, and entertaining, Stay is the perfect book to dive into if you're in the mood for something lighthearted with minimal angst and a good amount of steam. It’s a feel-good romance that’ll make you laugh and swoon from start to finish. With Stay, Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy have delivered another must-read romance in their WAGs series and I can’t wait to see what else they have in store for the series.
