From USA Today best selling author Rebecca Shea comes a new standalone second chance romance, Fault Lines.
At eleven he was my first crush. At sixteen he became mine. At nineteen he broke my heart and destroyed me. That was ten years ago and the last time I saw Cole Ryan.
They say you never get over your first love...I beg to differ. I left my shattered heart buried in a town I never expected to return to. I erased every thought of him and buried the memories never to be found.
I moved on...now ten years later I have the perfect life, the perfect fiancé, the perfect career. Everything I ever wanted until I'm forced to go back and face my past and the man that destroyed me.
He won't stop until I know the truth no matter how hard I fight it. In the end, lies will be uncovered, hearts will be broken, and my life as I've come to know it destroyed.

As an angst fanatic, as soon as I read the synopsis for Fault Lines I knew right away this was something that I needed to read as soon as possible. Young love, returning home, second chances, and a love triangle are all right up my alley and I simply could not wait to get started. While I didn't experience that angsty gut punch I was so looking forward to, I did find a sweet and innocent romance, a solidly swoony hero, and a heartwarming second chance.
Cole Ryan is a new favorite hero of mine when it comes to swoon factor. This man is caring, considerate, and completely selfless. Even considering what could be the biggest mistake of his life, he truly had the best of intentions at the time and felt as though he was doing the only thing he could in order to ensure the best possible outcome for someone he loved. Cole is generous, he is kind, he cares about his neighbors, his community, his hometown, he is sweet, and he always know just the right thing to say to make you melt like butter. Cole is simply swoony with a capital S.
As previously indicated, I am always on the hunt for the next great soul crushingly angsty read. Though Fault Lines seems to promise just this, and did have its fair share of feels, it just didn't quite live up to my expectations. When it came down to a decision, there was no real decision, no one was left devastated, everyone immediately moving on with their lives. When it came to feels, there were plenty of warm and fuzzies and a bit of longing, and some watery eyes here and there, but nothing that knocked me off my feet or that I felt too powerfully or overwhelmingly.
Then comes the big reveal. The secret that has been kept for years upon years and hinted at numerous times throughout the course of the story. But, as it turns out, I wasn't all that surprised. Second only to angst, I love the big surprise more than just about anything. When an author can keep me on the hook and pleading to know what exactly is going on or just what I have been overlooking the entire time, I get all giddy, I get chills, I get truly excited about the story. There was either a bit too much given away early on or it just wasn't that unforeseen to make this surprise not all that shocking in the long run. Did it add yet another layer to a wonderful second chance? Absolutely. Was it sad to think of the missed opportunity and all the lost possibilities? For sure. There is no doubt that this secret added to the story, I just would have loved to have been taken a bit more aback by it.
A quick, easy, enjoyable love story, Fault Lines may not be the anxiety-ridden roller coaster of emotion it appears to be, but it certainly is a sweet romance with just enough drama, a great escape, and a marvelous second chance.
