Getaway Girl by Tessa Bailey: ARC Review

This unlikely getaway driver never expected to help the mayor escape…

After a six-year absence, Addison Potts is back in Charleston to stir things up. And what better place to make her villainous return than her estranged cousin’s wedding? Only, the nuptials hit a snag when the bride doesn’t show, leaving Addison to play getaway driver for the jilted groom. A groom whose heartbreaking smile and deep, southern drawl she should not be noticing…

Elijah Montgomery Du Pont is the future mayor of Charleston. From his military career to city hall, every detail of his life has been meticulously planned. Until now. His only respite from life’s sudden upheaval is Addison, his new, improbable best friend. She makes him happy. Grounds him. And public disapproval be damned, he’s not willing to give her up. But with an election on the line and public pressure rising, Addison—and the cruel hand of fate—might not give him a choice.

About the Author:

Thank you for your interest in my books! I'm Tessa and I live in the crazy, loud, overcrowded borough of Brooklyn, New York. I love it here. This city is a constant source of inspiration, which is why I've decided to set my most recent books in the Line of Duty Series here.

I moved to New York when I was eighteen, the day after I graduated high school. Threw my suitcase in the back of a Chevrolet Cavalier and drove across the country to find my adventure. I'm still finding it, little by little.

Thank you for being a part of it.

Yvette's Review:

A romance between a jilted groom and his unexpected savior who just so happens to be related to his ex-fiancée? The concept alone had me intrigued! Now imagine that romance being written by Tessa Bailey... Imagine the heroine having a proclivity for dirty-talking and the hero being self-conscious about the extra padding in his derriere… Anything you imagine won’t even come close to the complete perfection that is Getaway Girl. I’m talking a next-level-steamy romance, a heartfelt, entertaining storyline, and compelling characters all wrapped up in one compulsively addictive page-turner.

When she returns to Charleston, South Carolina after a six-year absence, Addison Potts doesn’t expect to crash the wedding of her estranged cousin. She doesn’t expect to be overwhelmingly attracted to the groom and she sure doesn’t expect to be the getaway driver when the groom is left at the altar. As a politician running for mayor, Captain Elijah Montgomery Du Pont is no stranger to keeping up appearances. Being blindsided by his fiancée when she doesn’t show up for their wedding is a scandal that his mayoral candidacy doesn’t need, which is perhaps why he impulsively jumps into a car with a beautiful, mysterious stranger. For Elijah, Addison provides tough love and a safe haven from the chaos surrounding his failed nuptials, leading the pair to strike up an unlikely friendship.

From strangers to roommates to friends to lovers, Addison and Elijah don’t have the most conventional of relationships. They’re also polar opposites, with Addison’s vibrant, intrepid persona providing a stark, yet complementary contrast to Elijah, who’s the textbook definition of a Southern gentleman, handsome, kind, and genuine. As different as they seem at first glance, what they do have in common is effortless chemistry, an abundance of sexual tension, and an ability to keep each other on their toes. Their dynamic is fun and flirty, with just a hint of the forbidden, especially as their friendship strengthens along with their attraction to each other.

The progression of their romance seems almost agonizing slow (even if it’s not in actuality) because I was dying for Addison and Elijah to cross that line between friendship and something more. D.Y.I.N.G. In spectacular fashion, Tessa Bailey delivers a romance that’s wildly passionate, unrestrained, and downright debauched. Addison and Elijah give in to their primal, baser instincts in private, breaking free of all the expectations and restrictions placed on them by being in the public eye. With Elijah, Addison feels comfortable indulging in her innermost needs and desires, and Elijah is a willing participant in her most erotic fantasies. Elijah may have a polished, straight-laced appearance but the man can out-dirty-talk the raunchiest of sailors. The sheer sexual potency between these two characters is enough to set your Kindle on fire (figuratively speaking, of course…)

It seems as though I say this with each new release by Tessa Bailey (because I mean it each time) but Getaway Girl is my new favorite book by this author. While it’s a lighthearted storyline that’ll evoke a fair amount of laughter, there’s enough angst to supply you with plenty of gut-wrenching, all-consuming feels. Getaway Girl is so romantic, it’s impossible not to remain in a state of swoon, so sweet, your heart will melt and fall head over heels for these characters, and so jaw-droppingly sexy, you’ll be left in awe of Tessa Bailey’s skills to create not just a dirty-talking hero but a heroine who more than keeps up with him.
