The Thief by Kate McCarthy: Blog Tour Review

After years of working in the family business, Arcadia “Ace” Jones has become a renowned car thief. Trained from a tender age, it’s the only life she’s ever known. Longing for a future that doesn’t hold the promise of prison, she makes the decision to go straight and earn an honest living.

But the Marchetti Organisation won’t accept her retirement, forcing her to complete a job so big it’s almost impossible. She’s on a tight deadline but an irritating biker dude keeps thwarting her attempts to deliver.

Kelly Daniels likes to tinker with bikes and cars. He’s content with operating the car restoration business he owns alongside his partners, until an annoying little thief manages to steal a Dodge Charger right out from under his nose.

He gets pulled into her treacherous scheme and they form an unlikely bond. When it becomes a race against the clock to pull off the heist of the century or end up behind bars, Ace and Kelly realise they have more to lose than their freedom—each other.

About the Author:

Kate McCarthy grew up in a small town outside of Port Macquarie, Australia. Raised in a house just a short walk to the beach, Kate enjoyed the peaceful, relaxed atmosphere and friendships that come from being raised in a friendly, small town area.

She now resides in Brisbane, Australia, a city in the state of Queensland where she works as an accountant, along with a sideline wedding cake business and her writing.

She is married with two children, has two dogs and house in the suburbs, and a pile of friends and family dotted all over the country that help keep her sane.

When she’s not busy running after naughty kids, filthy dogs, crunching numbers, piping buttercream and writing books, you can find her curled up in bed in the early hours of the morning reading new books and re-reading old favourites. Her favourite books are the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward in which she longs to eventually join the brotherhood and change her name to Phierce Mutha.

Michelle's Review:

As a huge fan of the Give Me series, I have been preoccupied by Kelly Daniels from the first moment his name was mentioned, so it would be safe to say that I have been impatiently waiting for Kelly's story for quite some time now. Not only is The Thief an important story for Kelly, it's an important story for our heroine Arcadia, and even Kelly's best friend and brother, Luke as well. Even more, if you are just half the fan of Casey Daniels as I am, it turns out Kelly's story is an extremely important one for Casey and Grace also. The intriguing mingling of a gear head, a reformed car thief, a trained race car driver, a car restorer, and a biker, The Thief is fun, exciting, sexy, and fresh.

First there's the prologue. If this prologue doesn't hook you, I don't know what will. The prologue instantly draws you into Kelly's tragic past and connects you with his younger self, making his tough exterior, his resentment, his animosity, as well as his MC affiliation and alliance much more understandable and easy to swallow. This prologue brings a whole host of emotions to the surface and you will quickly find yourself even more enraptured by Kelly than you may have even thought possible.

Ace is one independent and strong woman while Kelly is big and brawny, tough, and loyal. The thing that I probably love the most about this book is how Kelly loves and encourages these traits in Ace despite being so strong, stubborn, and protective he is himself. This man doesn't "put up" with this woman who is fully capable of saving herself and strong enough to take whatever is thrown at her, he cherishes that aspect of her, he fosters it, and knows how to stand back and let her do what she needs to do, with the knowledge that he believes that she can overcome and accomplish anything and will be there if she truly needs him. Be prepared to fall in love with these two and this thrilling and engrossing love story.

So fresh and original, there is not another book like this one. Not necessarily an MC romance, yet there is plenty of MC camaraderie, a bit of MC mischief, and of course a hot bad boy biker hero. Not necessarily a tear-jerker, but each of these characters have a difficult past along with some tumultuous relationships in need of repair that lends plenty of emotion to this story. Not necessarily a star-crossed lovers tale, but these two have a multitude of reasons that they should not, and at times cannot, be together making for the perfect dose of angst and conflict. And as for the complications, there probably aren't two more seemingly wrong people for each other, but it just goes to show that love will persevere. No matter what type of story you are looking for, this one has something for everyone.

This author never fails to pull you in and hold you captive with each of her stories and her characters and this book is no exception. Whether you love this author, these characters, this series, or just a great love story with a nice side of action, you can't go wrong with Kate McCarthy and The Thief
